If you are an affiliate marketer that is using Amazon, at times seems like a real challenge to get your readers to click your links and to get the sales that you are hoping for. It takes a lot of time creating a website, so it would be nice to see the reward of earnings as well.
Amazon has spent millions on marketing that helps them convert people from shoppers to buyers, so if you can get your reader to the Amazon site, there is a good chance of getting some type of sale either with what you are recommending or with the pop ups of items that the reader has recently looked at when they were previously on the site.
But how do we get our readers to click over to Amazon? Here are some easy tips to increase your Amazon Affiliate earnings that should gain you more clicks meaning more earning potential.
Links To Images
It is surprising that people try to click on almost anything on your posts (with the exception of the links you want them to click on). Many readers will try to click on pictures that are just images that you have added to your article to help it be more relevant.
You can add Amazon links to your images even images that aren’t from Amazon. Simply grab your affiliate link from Amazon, go into edit your post that contains the image you want linked, click on the image, click on hyperlink icon in the WordPress editor toolbar and insert your affiliate link. Remember to save after making changes.
Call To Action
Too many times, our articles don’t have a call to action within the article. We just hope that we when provide the links to Amazon that someone will click on them. When readers get done reading your information, you need to let them know the next step they should be taking. You don’t want to come across as a hard sell, but you can tell them at the end of the article to click the link to be taken to Amazon.
Here are a few other examples of call to action:
- Click here to see more customer reviews. (Read below how to include your affiliate link on customer reviews.)
- Click here to buy X on Amazon now.
- Click here to see the latest prices on Amazon
- Ready to buy? Click here now.
Make your call to action stand out.
Create Comparison Charts
Readers like to see comparisons between different products so they know they are getting the best product that they can afford. It will help them to decide which product is right for them, which will help move them along in the purchasing process.
It is easy to create comparison charts with a plugin called TablePress. Make sure to include different metrics that the user can sort by and include basic pricing structure with using $ $$ or $$$$. I believe you will have more success comparing 3 to 5 items rather than comparing 7 to 10 items. Too many items is going to lead your readers to more confusion and too many choices that they might not be able to make a decision right away.
You should also include your Amazon Affiliate link right on the product and you can even incorporate an image of the product if you like.
Here is a very simple comparison chart that I have created to give you some ideas.
Training Collar | Range | Stimulation | Waterproof | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|
Sportdog Field Trainer 425X | 500 Yards | 21 Levels | Yes | $$$ |
Mothca Dog | 9 Levels | Yes | $ | |
Dogtra ARC Remote | 3/4 Mile | 127 Levels | Yes | $$$$ |
Dogtra IQ Remote | 400 Yards | 100 Levels | Yes | $$$ |
Petrainer | 330 Yards | 100 Levels | Yes | $ |
Use Amazon SiteStripe
If you are signed up as an Amazon Associate, you should be using the SiteStripe for all of your affiliate links. If you don’t see SiteStripe when you log into your Amazon Associate dashboard, look under the “tools” menu for “SiteStripe” and click that. Then, click the blue “Learn More” link to access your settings to turn it on.
Using the “text” link within SiteStripe will allow you to get an affiliate code not only for one particular product, but you can get a link for an entire page for example a review, several products or even all 5 star reviews. Don’t link Amazon reviews on your page without using your Affiliate Link. You could be losing sales if you do.
Creative Ways To Link To Any Page On Amazon
Get creative with how you get your readers to Amazon. Everyone is familiar with clicking on an Amazon link and seeing the one product that was being discussed, but there are so many other ways that you can link you Amazon Affiliate Link.
Let me give you some examples of how you can change it up and get a better success rate of people clicking on your links.
When you go into your Amazon Account, you will notice on the left side is an area that helps you refine your search. In this example, let’s say we are searching for crock pots. If a customer went into Amazon, they would find there are 4000 results, which could lead them to leave and go in search of more information to help them make their decision. That is where you come in with help.
You are going to help your readers narrow down their search results and give them fewer products to choose from.
Start with selecting Amazon Prime. Prime members are happy to see the Prime Symbol which means it is being shipped from an Amazon warehouse and not a 3rd party and the Prime member gets all the Prime shipping perks that go with it. You will be helping your readers if you only show Prime eligible products.

Next you should narrow down the brand, the size, the price (under $25 for this example) and the rating. I recommend only choosing 4 star and up products. By putting these filters in, my list of crock pots went from 4000 products to only 6 crock pots to look at.
This is what I would put in my article.
“These are the only best rated 6 quart crock pots under $25 available”.
I would include my link to the entire page showing these crock pots. I recommend not stating how many crock pots there are, the numbers could change daily with Amazon updates. The above statement will create curiosity and get clicked a lot. This is a huge conversion booster, because you helped your reader narrow down their choices and they are probably not the crock pots they saw when they searched on Amazon.
Choose one of these crock pots to talk about using information you gather from the reviews, questions that people have asked, talk about colors, features, etc.
State the following, ” This is the crock pot most consumers seem to be the happiest with and felt it was totally worth the money. If you can get it for $XX or so, it is a great deal, but I don’t think I would spend more than $XXX on it unless I was getting free shipping.” (You insert your dollar amounts for the XX’s.) Next add a link with the following message.
Check The Current Price Here
What I am doing is making sure the reader would see that crock pot. Their curiosity will lead them there.
Don’t break Amazon’s rules by stating a price, but you can help the reader know a price range before they click on the link so they feel more confident about the price when they see it.
If they are still reading my post, they aren’t sold yet, so I need to lead them in another direction.
Star Ratings
If you scroll down a product page to the reviews area, you will see an area like this:
Did you know you can link to only all the 5 star reviews, or only the 4 star review’ or others?
Click on the rating you want to isolate and let that page load. Use your SiteStripe to get your affiliate link.
Talk about how happy people are with the crock pot and link them to ONLY the 5 star reviews.
“The majority of the reviews of this crock pot are very positive and contain helpful information if you aren’t sure if this is the right crock pot for you.”
Read All 5 Star Reviews Here
“On the other hand, there are a few people that are not happy with this crock pot at all and only rated it one star. Some of their negative feedback might help you realize if this is not the crock pot for you.”
Read All Negative One Star Reviews Here
Make sure and use your affiliate link on the above statement as well. Remember, your readers do not want to risk making a “bad” decision or picking the “wrong” product. You are helping them to avoid that outcome.
Now you need to go a step further.
If the reader is still on my page and not shopping at Amazon after all the links I have shared, then it’s time to change my recommendation of a crock pot for them.
To do this, I will read the one-star reviews and find one specific review that points out a specific problem. For example, this review talks about the crock pot being too hot on the exterior. You will want to talk about the biggest problem people have with this crock pot.
“The biggest problem I have read in all the negative reviews is that the crock pot gets too hot on the exterior. Like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a high-quality crock pot that will not burn you if you accidentally touch it, this is probably not the right crock pot for you. One reviewer talked about the exterior temperature being over 200 degrees in this review here.”
(When I say “in this review here” I am literally linking to that one review.) On any individual review, you can click the title of the review and go to a page on Amazon that is just that one review. Use your SiteStripe to get your affiliate link to that page.
This is a powerful technique to get the “click” and it is helpful to your readers by directing them to important things they need to know so they purchase the right product.
After pointing out that “fault” with the crock pot, I am going to recommend a better crock pot that is great with temperature control and will last longer.
I usually get my ideas from the product page. Many product pages have an area like this:
“Compare to Similar Item” area. I use this because your reader probably has already seen these crock pots and might have already looked at these as well. they might already be familiar with these crock pots, so it will make sense to them.
In this situation where the original crock pot isn’t good at controlling the exterior temperature, I’d pick a crock pot from the “compare” options that doesn’t have that problem and is better suited for them and link them to that product page.
Talk about the new crock pot and why it is a better choice and point them to good reviews. Read a few of the bad reviews and find an objection that you can easily contradict.

Great post! Honestly I hadn’t considered adding an amazon affiliate link to an image so this is very helpful information. Great advice on calls to action, as really you don’t want to come across as a hard sell. Recommending that a call to action be added at an article’s end is brilliant. Comparisons are great and I appreciate your reference to TablePress. I’ve heard about SiteStripe but haven’t had a chance to learn much about it or implement it. You’ve spiked my curiosity and I will remember to use SiteStripe when linking through Amazon, even with comments.
The SiteStripe is the best way to get any of your affiliate links. It will make sure that your information is always current for your readers, even if the pricing changes. When you get to the point of adding affiliate links to your website, make sure to get all of your links through SiteStripe. It will save you problems later on.
This post is golden. Such an explicit way to create awareness over new approaches that would suit affiliates better in order to cash in more from Amazon. These tips are really well laid out and I did found myself amazed throughout the post because the tips are simply true. Thanks for reading and I am glad you find the tips helpful. I was trying to find easy ways that all affiliates can benefit from their links to Amazon. Good luck to you.
I haven’t been able to get approved to be an Amazon affiliate yet, but I am still working on it. This article is full of stuff I will remember once I get approved. I think that it is really cool to be able to get your link on groups of products with the SiteStripe that is what I will remember the most. Thanks for all of your great tips.
I was wondering how you liked being an Amazon Affiliate? I have been getting mixed reviews from my circle of fellow marketers. I guess for the most part everybody likes it, but a couple of people say that Amazon can be hard to please sometimes. I am going to get approved I know that. Did you have any problems getting approved?
Anywho thank you for taking the time to put these great tips in an article it is greatly appreciated
I am glad this article will be helpful when you become an Amazon Affiliate. There are so many things you can do to help the chances of your readers clicking on your links.
I didn’t have a problem becoming an Amazon Associate, but I was stressing about getting the required sales before the deadline. Luckily I made it, and I haven’t had any issues with them. I have read many warnings on what not to do so you don’t lose being an associate of theirs. I wouldn’t try being an associate until you are getting some traffic to your site or it might be a scramble getting enough sales.
Good luck to you and wishing you success.
