Surprisingly, there are many cash back shopping apps that are available for free that will allow you to earn some extra money from shopping. When I started using my first cash back shopping app, I was surprised this was available, and I was disappointed with myself that I didn’t discover this sooner so I could have been earning some extra cash without much effort.
I am going to show you 5 cash back apps that I think are worthwhile for you to take a look at and help you start putting some money back into your pocket. These are all easy ways to earn some money back from things you are already doing.
Ebates was founded in 1998, and is a cash back and shopping rewards company. Ebates has paid over $1 Billion in cash to its members since they have started their program, and this might be one you have frequently seen advertised on TV.
Once you join Ebates, which is free to join, you can get cash back for shopping at over 2500 stores including many favorites like Amazon, JCPenny, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Walmart, Macy’s and many more.
How It Works
Ebates gets a commission from stores when you make a purchase and that commission is shared with you. You simply go to Ebates “shop now” and shop like normal. After you make a purchase, you will earn cash back. This is actual cash that comes in the form of a check every 4 months.
If you add the free browser extension, Ebates will automatically apply the best coupons at checkout and earn you cash back without you going through any special steps.
You can now also use Ebates for your in-store purchases as well. Go to your account and add a credit card. Link your credit card to the stores you shop in and than use that credit card to pay for your purchases. The link will automatically go towards your purchase and you will earn cash back rewards in stores as well.
You can Join Ebates from here, and start earning cash today.
Ibotta was founded in 2011 and works with over 300 retail chain stores including Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club, Pic N Save Cub Foods, Walgreens and CVS Pharmacy to name a few. This is one of the best cash back apps for groceries.
How Ibotta Works
- You find offers on your app before you shop and add offers by completing simple tasks.
- Go shopping
- Redeem your offers by taking a photo of your receipt. They match the items you bought to the offers you selected and give you the cash
You can make it easier by linking a Loyalty Card to your account. You will still need to find the offers ahead of time, but when you purchase your groceries using your Loyalty Card, your account will automatically get credited your reward dollars.
If you use your Mobile In-App, the steps to follow are find offers, launch app, shop and get your reward. No need to send them the receipt.
You can join Ibotta for free.
I personally have this app, but you might want to take a look around at the offers. You might find many savings, but many of the items that are available for earnings are items that I wouldn’t purchase, but earning a few dollars each week is better than nothing.
This app is probably the easiest of all to use, but your earnings will take longer to accumulate with this app.
It doesn’t matter where you shop, you just need a copy of your receipt. You go into the Coinout App and scan your receipt making sure the date, store and total bill are visible when you scan your receipt. You will immediately see how much you have earned for that receipt.
What you are going to earn is a mystery prior to scanning the receipt. Each day there is a minimum and maximum amount determined for payouts and you will randomly get an amount for all receipts you submit. It doesn’t matter how much the receipt is for. You might only receive $.01 or you might receiver $.15. The amounts are lower, but it is super easy to do and kind of fun waiting for the amount to pop up, since you never know how much it will be.
You can also shop directly through the app at stores like Walmart, eBay, Groupon, Kohl’s, Target and many more to earn additional cash. The payouts are greater with this feature.
Watch for different badges every week for additional earnings.
There is no minimum for cashing out if you direct deposit to your bank or want an Amazon Gift Card. There is a $10 minimum for PayPal. You can cash out once per week.

Checkout 51 is similar to Ibotta as being a grocery shopping cash back app. It was founded in 2012. The advantage with Checkout 51 is you don’t have to claim offers at a specific store, you can shop wherever you want.
You can download the app for free, start browsing offers and shop. You scan your receipts with the app to get your cash back.
Offers will change weekly on Thursday mornings, so be sure to check back if they didn’t have anything of interest the last time you looked. Once you have earned $20 in cash back, you can request a check.
There are several different cash back shopping apps available that can help you earn some extra money from shopping. Try any of them or all of them. It costs you nothing to join any of these programs, and all of them are very legit cash back shopping apps where you will actually earn some money.
You need to realize, that none of these are going to be great earnings for you, but I almost consider it free money, since I really don’t do much to start earning with them. I am happy to take free money at any time, aren’t you?
Join one or more of them today and start slowly earning. Let me know if you have any other great free cash back shopping apps that you might know about. I am happy to get the word out to others to help all of us put a few more pennies in our pockets.
